The Medical Cannabis Institute Launches Website
The Medical Cannabis Institute website helps educate a growing global community of healthcare professionals, caregivers, and patients who want and need to learn about the science behind and clinical application of medical cannabis. The Medical Cannabis Institute’s charter group of content providers includes Patients Out of Time, the Society of Cannabis Clinicians, and Healthy Choices Unlimited, and comprises distinguished faculty and healthcare professionals who are experts in medical cannabis.
As of September 1, 2014, 23 states and the District of Columbia have legalized medical marijuana and three states have pending legislation. As the legalization of medical cannabis advances across the United States, The Medical Cannabis Institute brings together content from experts in the field to close the education gap.
According to medical cannabis expert Sunil K. Aggarwal, M.D., Ph.D., who was most recently a resident physician at New York University Medical Center and is a contributor to The Medical Cannabis Institute, “Most medical schools are lagging in teaching the scientific facts about the medicinal use of cannabis.” Dr. Aggarwal’s course, Cannabis Therapeutics in Hospice and Palliative Care, is one of many featured in The Medical Cannabis Institute online course catalog.
“Scitent is pleased to be the technology and instructional design engine behind The Medical Cannabis Institute. We look forward to working with current and future content providers to meet the growing need for medical cannabis education,” said Deb McMahon, PhD, President and CEO of Scitent.
Healthcare professionals, caregivers and patients can select from a growing list of online courses, most of which are approved for CME credit.
Initial courses and topics include:
- The Fundamentals of Cannabis and the Endocannabinoid System
- Medical Cannabis and Pain Management, Palliative Care, Cardiovascular Problems, and Neurologic Disorders
- Clinical Applications of Cannabis in Cancer Patients
- Cannabis Therapeutics in Hospice and Palliative Care
