A recent study has revealed that the endocannabinoid system may provide a novel treatment for alcoholism. Researchers have found that cannabinoid receptor 2 (CB2) is able to block the reward pathway for alcohol consumption. Dampening the positive effects felt when consuming alcohol will hopefully lower the need to drink felt by those suffering from alcohol […]

According to a new study, cannabinoids CBC (cannabichromene) and CBG (cannabigerol) both exhibit anti-tumor properties, tested on human gastrointestinal cancer cells. CBC and CBG were both shown to induce significantly higher rates of necrosis in GI cancer cells compared to other cannabinoids, thus strengthening previously obtained results. Researchers at Italy’s University of Salento have discovered two new cannabinoids – THCP and CBDP – and THCP could be more potent than THC. In tests on mice, researchers found that THCP showed “an affinity for CB1 receptor more than thirty-fold higher compared to the one reported for THC.” See the original article at Ganjapreneur

CBDV, or cannabidivarin, is one of many molecules derived from cannabis and hemp plants. Like CBD, CBDV is not intoxicating when isolated, so it won’t cause the euphoric high associated with high-THC cannabis. Much of the research around CBDV has centered around its effect on seizures. GW Pharmaceuticals, which developed the first FDA-approved CBD drug […]

Up to 30 percent of veterans develop the symptoms of PTSD throughout their lifetime. That’s roughly 11 to 20 returning veterans out of every 100 from the Gulf War, and up to 30 out of every 100 from the Vietnam war. There is no cure for PTSD. But recently scientists have made breakthroughs in understanding how PTSD can […]

Agriculture technology companies are competing to develop new strains of cannabis plants that can produce consistent cannabinoid levels and thus offer consumers repeatable, predictable effects. While this goal is far from new, top plant scientists are now working toward it in multi-million dollar labs for massive retail cannabis companies, instead of underground breeders. Extremely low levels of the compound in marijuana known as delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, may slow or halt the progression of Alzheimer’s disease, a recent study from neuroscientists shows. Researchers from the USF Health Byrd Alzheimer’s Institute showed that extremely low doses of THC reduce the production of amyloid beta, found in a soluble form in […]

Todd Mitchem of Todd Mitchem Cannabis Consulting and CannaSearch LLC is on a mission to help doctors understand that they must learn about the benefits of cannabis in the body as a wellness medicine. When Todd’s mother was diagnosed with cancer a second time her doctor told her that she had only six months remaining to put her affairs in order.  “That […]

In an effort to further understand how cannabis exerts its effects, Vanderbilt University researchers identify cannabinoid receptors in the part of the brain that regulates anxiety and the flight-or-fight response. Led by first author Teniel Ramikie, a graduate student in Patel’s lab, the researchers also showed for the first time how nerve cells in this […]
