Cannabis Odor Isn’t Grounds For Search, Rules Vermont Court
Vermont’s Supreme Court ruled last week that the smell of burned or burning cannabis is not legal grounds for police to initiate a search. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed suit against the state for the actions of a Vermont state trooper in 2014.
After the ruling — passed down by Associate Justice Harold E. Eaton, Jr. — a binding legal precedent has been set across the state.
