Yesterday Senators Cory Gardner and Elizabeth Warren introduced a bill that would protect states with legalized marijuana, but many wondered if it actually has a chance to become law.

Trump spoke to the press before leaving for a G7 summit in Canada when a reporter asked if the president supports Gardner and Warren’s bill. Trump replied that he does.

“I really do. I support Senator Gardner,” Trump said. “I know exactly what he’s doing. We’re looking at it. But I probably will end up supporting that, yes.”

However, Trump’s history with marijuana is quite questionable. In the past he’s said he supports medical marijuana and for states to make their own marijuana laws. But as president, he’s made virtually no statements about the issue and appointed Jeff Sessions, one of America’s most notorious anti-marijuana politicians, as his Attorney General.

The most likely scenario is Trump will support whatever the Republican Party decides to do with Gardner’s bill. If they pass it, he’ll happily sign it.
