The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) today announced that it received 12 applications from parties seeking to become registered medical cannabis manufacturers in the state’s new medical cannabis program.

Twelve companies applied to become registered medical cannabis manufacturers for Minnesota’s new medical cannabis program.

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) will select two applicants by December 1, 2014 to become the state’s first medical cannabis manufacturers. Within a network of eight dispensaries that are to be established (four dispensaries per applicant), the manufacturers will be responsible for growing the medical cannabis, processing it into pill or liquid form, and distributing the medical cannabis throughout the state.

The selection process will include review of all applications, presentations by select applicants and site visits to those under final consideration. Under the recently passed medical cannabis statute, MDH may not identify specific applicants until the manufacturer selection process is complete.
