Human beings have been applying substances to their skin as medical agents for centuries, however, belief in the skin as a safer drug delivery route is harvesting fresh attention, particularly in the medical cannabis industry where the market desires consumption alternatives.

Mary’s Medicinals is a nutraceutical (nutrition meets pharmaceuticals) company, that has prepared for this unique renaissance with the launch of its inaugural product, the transdermal patch—offering an accurately dosed, discreet use, clean cannabinoid delivery for up to eight hours.

Mary’s currently offers six patent-pending transdermal patches—THCa, THC Indica, THC Sativa, CBN, CBD, and 1:1 CBD/THC—all in 10 mg dosing.

Offered in single-dose packaging, each option is a 2-inch square patch that is easy to use and adheres to any part of the skin. The patch provides a controlled release of cannabinoids delivered through the skin and into the blood stream.

IMG_4692Why Only 10 mg?
The patches delivers cannabinoids directly to the blood stream, avoiding filtration through the stomach and liver, which means that 100% of the medicine is absorbed by the body. Basically, Mary’s patches provide a pure pharmaceutical-grade dose, whereas edible potency degrades significantly by the time it is digested.

The 10 mg patches are also meant to act as part of a flexible dosage system. Like edibles, dosage is affected by many different factors that each unique user has to navigate to find the right dose for them. Users who are unfamiliar with their tolerance can cut the patch into a smaller dose, and users with a higher tolerance, or severely ill patients can wear multiple patches to reach a desired effect. More importantly, this allows for a combination of different patches to be worn as a way to target a variety of symptoms.

What Kind Of Effect Can I Expect?
Mary’s transdermal patches with THC deliver a different “high” than the one you get from smoking cannabis. Instead of hitting you quickly and wearing off fast, the effects take closer to 20 minutes to be felt and offers a steady, continuous high that can last for up to eight hours.

We tried the THC Sativa and the 1:1 CBD/THC one morning and found the effect to be similar to that of an edible. After a little while it hit us behind the eyes and started to lessen (not eliminate) our urge to have our mid-day smoke. The effect didn’t make us cloudy or disable us from any tasks—it was more of a comforting and subtle background high.

What Cannabinoid Patch Should I Choose?

  • THCa (Tetrahydrocannabinolic Acid): THCa is a non-psychotropic form of THC that provides many of the same benefits: anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative (cancer fighting), and helps reduce muscle spasms
  • THC Indica/Sativa (Tetrahydrocannabinol): Provides same benefits of THCa, but also reduces nausea, stimulates appetite, and relieves glaucoma symptoms. THC Sativa has a stimulating effect for the daytime, whereas THC Indica is best for the evening as a sleep aid.
  • CBN (Cannabinol): Often referred to as a pain reliever but also used for its anti-depressant, anti-epileptic and anti-spasm effects. CBN is also ideal for those suffering from glaucoma, inflammation, and insomnia.
  • CBD (Cannabidiol): This cannabinoid provides a wonderland of health benefits. CBD has anti-inflammatory, anti-convulsive, anti-anxiety, anti-psychotic, anti-nausea, and anti-rheumatoid arthritis properties. It also has been show to treat inflammation, diabetes, cancer, PTSD, ADD and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimers.MarysMedsTrans
