In an effort to further understand how cannabis exerts its effects, Vanderbilt University researchers identify cannabinoid receptors in the part of the brain that regulates anxiety and the flight-or-fight response.

Led by first author Teniel Ramikie, a graduate student in Patel’s lab, the researchers also showed for the first time how nerve cells in this part of the brain make and release their own natural “endocannabinoids.”

The study “could be highly important for understanding how cannabis exerts its behavioral effects,” Patel said.

  1. YES YES YES I AGREE! Diagnosed with depression and anxiety back in ’09, no meds worked & the buzz got around about weed, and ever since I tried in ’12 I’ve been so much better!
